  • Why havent interest rates on your savings account increased long after the bailout?

    cj asked:

Economic crash of 2009 – banks had to lower interest rates on their savings accounts. Now in 2010, the rates are still what they were post-bailout. Shouldnt the interest rates bounce back to normal now that everything else is back to normal (and the banksters are happy)?

An estimated 2 million adjustable rate mortgages are scheduled to reset by the end of 2008, going from low introductory interest rates to higher rates that in some cases will double or even triple the monthly payment. Its called predatory lending. Thats our money that they loan out after we deposit our paychecks, Its regulated by us, but its regulated in favor of profits for the banking industry. Cant one of us go pay off some senators?

Why did the Fed decide to change interest rates? What specific economic events caused this change?

I am writing a paper and one of the questions calls for specific events that would explain why the Fed decided to lower interest rates recently. I need some good examples. Links would be appreciated… Thank you!

  • How do interest rates affect different economic sectors?

It’s not made clear as to what sort of economic sectors the question refers to.

I know this much at least:

    -Increasing interest rates
    Higher mortgage costs
    Lower CPI
    Prevents inflation
    Slows the economy (decreasing GDP)
    Higher risk of recession

    -Decreasing interest rates
    Lower mortgage costs
    Higher CPI
    Steers economy towards inflation
Speeds up the economy (increasing GDP)
    Lower risk of recession

what i don’t know is how this affects 2 different sectors of the economy.
Are different sectors affected differently at all?

Kirby Daley said on 2009.02.23 that China will not have sufficient amount of money to buy all US treasuries that will have to be issued. The difference will have to be printed by Ben Bernanke and Federal Reserve or the interest rates would have to go up dramatically, just as they did in late 70′ and early 80′
